Sydney Opera House
Jørn Utzon's expressionist masterpiece on the shores of Sydney Harbour
About Sydney Opera House
A UNESCO World Heritage icon celebrated for its gleaming white shell sails. It hosts over 1,500 performances annually across ballet, opera, drama, and contemporary concerts.
Inaugurated by Queen Elizabeth II in 1973, the Sydney Opera House stands at Bennelong Point jutting into Sydney Harbour. Danish architect Jørn Utzon's groundbreaking design pushed the boundaries of structural engineering, using precast concrete shells clad in over one million Swedish ceramic tiles that glisten in changing harbour light. Visitors can stroll along the public harbour promenade, take an insider architectural tour, dine on fresh Sydney rock oysters at the waterside Opera Bar, or attend a world-class world premiere inside.
