Central Park
An 843-acre urban sanctuary in the heart of Manhattan
About Central Park
Designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux, this world-renowned public park features tranquil lakes, wooded ramble paths, historic bridges, and open meadows surrounded by skyscrapers.
Spanning 51 city blocks between Fifth Avenue and Central Park West, Central Park is the lungs and social soul of New York City. Established in 1858, its master design was revolutionary: sunken transverse roads kept city traffic invisible, allowing New Yorkers to escape industrial gridlock. Highlights include the romantic cast-iron Bow Bridge over The Lake, Bethesda Terrace with its Angel of the Waters fountain, the Strawberry Fields memorial to John Lennon, and the historic 1908 Carousel.
